Pacific Coast Luxury Down Comforter Review

By now you all know that I am a big fan of Pacific Coast’s Goose Down Comforters for several reasons. Their products are made in the United States plus they use high quality materials and construction techniques so your comforter will have a very long lifetime and there won’t be any problems with shifting or leaking feathers.

With the cold snap that’s hit the Midwest this week I’ve taken this as an excuse to try out a new comforter! I’ve been looking for a new duvet for my own bedroom and this is the perfect time to retire my old comforter to one of our guest rooms.

This week we will be looking at the Pacific Coast Luxury Down Comforter. At over $400, this is a higher end down comforter and a step up from the duvets you usually find at retail stores.

What I Like About This Luxury Down Comforter

Review Of Luxury Down Comforter By Pacific Coast

The 700 fill power goose down in the luxury comforter is a step up from the usual 500-600 fill power down feathers used in lower end comforters. The larger feathers in this down duvet form big clusters that insulate without extra weight. This makes the luxury down comforter one of the warmest and plushest duvets on the market. “Real Simple” magazine agrees and rated this as one of the best down comforters in their 2010 comparison.

The cotton cover is a 680 thread count fabric that feels extremely smooth and almost like satin against the hand. The fabric is very well woven with no slubs, loose threads, or defects. Pacific Coast calls the fabric “barrier weave” as it keeps loose feathers from escaping. I have not had the comforter long enough to verify this claim, but I did not notice any feathers poking out and scratching my skin nor were there any loose feathers when I unpacked the comforter.

As always, products from Pacific Coast come with an outstanding product guarantee and this comforter is no different. There’s a 30 night comfort guarantee and a 10 year lifetime warranty so you can try out the comforter and not need to worry about the quality of the comforter after several years of use. Plus an allergy free warranty means even those who get stuffy noses with feather bedding can try this comforter without risk.

While the official description of this comforter says it comes in oversized dimensions I found that it fit just perfectly in my king size duvet cover. This may be because the comforters are often measured before they are filled with down feathers. The puffy down filled comforter will end up with final dimensions that are less than what’s specified on their packaging. So in this case “oversized” means perfect fit. At least this is better than other brands of comforters that end up being a couple inches too small!

What I Don’t Like About The Pacific Coast Luxury Comforter

The price is not cheap starting in the 400s and up depending on which size you choose. I like to think of this as a luxury investment that will last through many years of restful sleep.

I know this is going to be a very weird complaint, but I actually found this comforter to be very warm. I know that’s kind of the whole point of a luxury down comforter but it’s described as a “year round” warmth by Pacific Coast. I find this to be more of a fall and winter season comforter.

Where To Get Pacific Coast’s Luxury Down Comforter

The best place to get this comforter is straight from the Pacific Coast website (click here) as you’ll get the full 10 year warranty and other product guarantees that way.

Warm Things Supremium Baffle Box Hungarian Down Comforter Review

Warm Things Supremium Medium Weight Down Comforter ReviewThe line between economy and luxury comforters is defined by subtle differences in material quality and construction.  The comforter I will be reviewing today is a medium luxury level down comforter.

Supremium is made by “Warm Things”, a goose down bedding manufacturer that has supported American craftsmanship for over 38 years.  While most brands of down comforters are made overseas in places like China and India, Supremium down comforters are actually made here in the USA from their facilities in the Bay Area in Northern California.

What I Like About Warm Things’ Supremium Hungarian Down Comforter

As a higher end down comforter, I have a lot of expectations for this product.  Warm Things comforters come in several quality grades with the highest being the Supremium grade.  Supremium comforters are made with Hungarian goose down rather than regular down.  Hungarian down feathers are superior to down from geese that live in warmer weather due to a larger feather size.  Thus it is a better insulator and has a lighter and plusher feel compared to regular down.Review of Supremium Medium Hungarian Goose Down Comforter

This medium weight comforter contains 700 fill power Hungarian goose down and due to the quality of the feathers, the Supremium comforter feels much warmer than I expected.  I find most medium weight comforters just right for mildly chilly nights but I often have to change to an extra warmth comforter when the really cold winter weather arrives.  Yet I found this medium weight comforter to be more than warm enough.  In fact I felt too hot with this comforter which is a welcome difference in subzero weather!

The fabric cover is 100% cotton with a 390 thread count.  While this is not the highest thread count I have seen in comforters of this grade, the fabric is tightly woven and does a good job of keeping loose feathers from coming out.

Square baffle boxes 8″ wide keep the feathers in place and prevents shifting, clumps, and bare spots.

What I Don’t Like

Due to the Hungarian goose down used to fill this comforter, it is extremely warm and toasty. Anybody who has a higher body temperature will probably end up hot and sweaty with this down duvet.  If this description fits you then you will be better off with a lighter year round comforter such as this Pacific Coast classic weight goose down comforter.

However if you are deathly afraid of the cold and often have cold feet then you will absolutely love the Supremium comforter!

Plus it seems like this comforter runs a bit smaller than the dimensions in the product description.  I called the manufacturers and apparently the sizes given are made from the dimensions of the fabric before it is filled with the down feathers.  Now of course once the comforter is stuffed full of goose feathers its measurements will end up smaller than if it were laid out flat!  This problem is easily taken care of if you get the next size up.  For example, if you have a queen size bed then you should get the king size comforter instead.

Down Comforter Review: Royal Hotel’s White Siberian Goose Down Comforter

This week I’ve been working on a series of reviews of inexpensive goose down blankets.  You can the other comforter brands right here in my list of the best comforters.

Today, we’re going to look at a down comforter that is easy on the budget at just under $200. The brand of this down feather comforter is “Royal Hotel” and it is a year round warmth comforter. This “Royal Hotel” comforter is filled with 750 fill power Siberian goose down and made with an incredible 1200 thread count Egyptian cotton fabric.

From my research, Royal Hotel is a manufacturer of luxury bedding that specializes in Egyptian cotton. They offer a range of products including duvet covers, sheets, feather pillows, and goose down filled comforters.

What I Like About The Royal Hotel Down Comforter

Royal Hotel Siberian Down Comforter ReviewFirst off, the two facts that stand out for me about this comforter is the fact that it uses high thread count Egyptian cotton and high fill power goose down. In my experience, even down comforters that cost more than $400 use cotton fabrics of at most 500-600 thread count and the fill power usually only goes up to 700. Royal Hotel stands ahead of the pack with 1200 thread count Egyptian cotton covers and 750+ fill power goose down.

While this is the official specification, the real test of the fabric’s quality is how it feels to the touch. The fabric cover is indeed high quality and felt extremely smooth against my hands. It is extremely tightly woven and did not snag against dry skin or nails. This is extremely important as there is nothing worse than having to feel like you need to have a manicure or pedicure just to lay down on your sheets!

As for the goose down, it puffed up beautifully after I let the comforter air out and “settle” for several days. It is extremely light since the king size contains 50 oz. of goose down and the blanket never felt heavy. To see how well this comforter would work in cold weather, I turned down the thermostat to 60 degrees for several nights. Sleeping with just a sheet and the comforter was extremely comfortable and the temperature was just right. The white Siberian goose down kept me comfortably warm throughout the night and my feet were never cold. The material is extremely breathable and I had no problems with sweating or being too hot during the night.

A baffle box stitching keeps the feathers from shifting around so you won’t end up with bare spots or lumps after several months of use. A side gusset, basically a piece of fabric “wall” between the two sides of the blanket, lets the down feathers expand to their max volume. This means your comforter will be better insulated as well as plush.

For a $300+ comforter that costs less than $200, the Royal Hotel white Siberian down comforter exceeded all my expectations. Don’t let the light weight of this white goose down comforter fool you, it keeps you extremely warm even in cold weather. This comforter is a great choice if you hate being weighed down and suffocated with the feeling of a heavy blanket.

If the more expensive luxury down comforters are out of your budget, then you definitely need to give this one a try. Also remember to purchase a duvet cover to keep your new comforter clean and fresh!

What I Dislike About Royal Hotel’s Siberian Goose Down Comforter

So is the “Royal Hotel White Siberian Goose Down Comforter” too good to be true? While you get an incredible value for your money, I do have some niggling problems to nitpick about this comforter.

First off, while the fabric is extremely smooth and soft, it does not feel like true 1200TC Egyptian cotton. At most I would put this at 800TC. However, this is still better quality than what you will find with most down comforters at this price range.

Secondly, it took longer than expected for the comforter to expand after taking it out of the factory packaging. Usually new down comforters come out flat as a pancake when you unpack them and it takes a day or so for the blanket to fully expand. However in this case it took more than 2 days before the feathers fluffed up. In the end I was pleased with the volume of the down feathers so there weren’t any problems with this comforter.

What Others Are Saying

Most people are as happy with their Royal Hotel goose down comforters as I am. The only frequent complaint is that the comforter does come out flat and deflated. Like I stated above, you will need to be patient and wait a couple days before the comforter puffs up. Take the comforter out of its bag and fluff it up once a day for a couple days. The best way to do this is just to spread the comforter out and sleep in it for a couple nights. Before you know, it will feel as soft and plush as you would expect from a 750 fill power down comforter.

Pinzon Pyrenees Goose Down Comforter Review

Pinzon Pyrenees White Goose Down Comforter ReviewFor a down comforter of such high fill power and thread count, this Amazon exclusive price is an incredible value.

This Pinzon branded goose down comforter is available in both full/queen and king sizes on Amazon and comes in light, medium, and extra warmth weights so you will be sure to find the right blanket that fits your bed.

What I Like About The Pinzon Pyrenees Comforter

I like that the manufacturer uses a tightly woven high thread count fabric. The Pyrenees comforter uses a 400 thread count cotton fabric which means you will not have feathers leaking out of your blanket. This is a common problem in cheaper comforters with thinner fabrics.

The Pyrenees comforters have 600 fill power goose down feathers which is an exceptional find at this price point. Fill power describes how much space a given amount of feathers can fill. A larger volume (fill power) means a warmer and plusher blanket.

The baffle box construction which Pinzon calls “PermaBaffle” means the feathers will not clump together in one corner of the blanket and leave bare spots in other areas.

Pinzon Down Comforter Baffle Box and Gusset WallsOne really exceptional feature of this Pinzon goose down comforter is the 1″ tall side walls. Usually in cheaper down blankets, the two fabric sides just stitched together which means the feathers are packed down together which results in a flat comforter that does not keep you warm. The side walls in this Pinzon comforter means that there is 1″ of space in the comforter for the down feathers to fully expand so you are sure to get superior loft and warmth.

The king size extra warmth blanket contains 60 ounces of goose down which is enough to keep you toasty warm in the winter without being too heavy and weighing you down.

Another really big plus is how easy it is to wash this Pinzon down feather comforter. It is both machine washable and dryable so there’s no need to worry about expensive dry cleaning fees.

Pinzon Pyrenees White Goose Down Comforter – What I Don’t Like

While the label makes you think this comforter is made by “Pinzon”, it is actually made by the DownLite feather company and just re-branded with the Pinzon name. DownLite is a feather company with a history going back to the 1970s and is a large manufacturer of feather bedding products for many brands including L.L.Bean, Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Costco, and more.

Also, the under $200 price is an exclusive offer available only on Amazon.

What Others Are Saying About the Pyrenees White Goose Down Comforter

Several reviews have mentioned that the Pyrenees comforter will keep even the coldest feet warm during the winter. Curiously though people who run hot also find the Pyrenees comforter to be just right without being too sweaty.

Many people are skeptical of the low price, as was I. However almost everybody found that despite the low price, this is a very light and fluffy comforter that is also thick and warm.

Where To Find The Best Price On Pinzon Pyrenees Comforters

The very best price is the exclusive offer that is currently on Amazon.com. The King size extra warmth model is the most expensive one at under $200 plus you get free shipping too.
